Police have started a special operation in response to the increasing number of road accidents in recent days.

Police said in a social media post that under this special operation, they have set up vehicle checkpoints in Male' and Hulhumale' and are stopping and checking vehicles and drivers. They further said that efforts are ongoing to increase awareness about road safety.

"Before you use vehicles, ensure you have taken all necessary safety measures," Police appealed to the public.

The highest number of accidents were recorded in March this year, with the number reaching 300. Other months show an average of over 200 accidents.
