The Planning Ministry has reduced the minimum bid price to USD 3 million and re-sought a party to build airports in six islands of the Maldives.

According to the first announcement made to seek a party to work on the project, the minimum amount to be submitted to finance the development of an airport is USD 5 million

While other changes have been brought to the bidding policy, the amendment has also made it possible to finance the development of the entire airport or part of the project. According to the previous announcement, bids can only be submitted for the development or financing of the entire airport.

The reason for the change has not been established.

According to the bid announced by the Ministry, the number of investments proposed for the development of the airport will be reduced from the acquisition cost of islands/land or lagoons to be leased for tourism purposes.

MVR 263 million has been allocated in this year's budget for the development of airports.

Islands for airport development and projected expenses:

• Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Makunudhoo / USD 23.3 million

• B. Bilafahi / USD 23.6 million

• B. Thulhaadhoo / USD 21.9 million

• Th. Vilufushi / USD 33.3 million

• F. Magoodhoo / USD 8.2 million

• USD 23.6 million in an island in the south of Raa Atoll

It had previously been announced to build an airport in Alifushi, R. Atoll. However, due to public differences over the development of the airport on the island, an island to be developed in Raa Atoll has not been finalized.

According to the announcement, the Ministry said that each airport is a separate project and expressing interest in the development and finance of a particular airport need not be announced.

Proposals must be submitted to the Economic Ministry. There is no deadline for the application.
