A representative from China has arrived in the Maldives to inaugurate the Sinamale Bridge.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the Chairman of China’s International Development Cooperation Agency, Wang Xiaotao, arrived on Wednesday with a delegation of representatives from the agency as well as the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Foreign ministry further revealed that the delegation will also oversee development projects in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ during their visit.
The Sinamale Bridge, one of the biggest development projects undertaken by the country, which connects capital Male and airport island Hulhule, is set to officially open this Thursday.
The project is estimated to cost USD 200 million, out of which USD 116 million is granted as free aid and USD 72 million as a loan by China. The Maldivian government is bearing USD 12 million of the project cost.
