Poles attached to pavements to affix campaign posters will be removed: City Council

Amid the flood of campaign posters across the city of Male' in approach of the upcoming parliamentary elections, Male' City Council has stated that poles affixed into the pavement used for pedestrian travel in order to display posters will be removed.

Male’ City Council has declared that the poles punctured into the pavement for the purpose of displaying campaign posters will be removed.

Media Spokesperson for the Council, Aminath Shathufa stated that the affixation of campaign posters across the city through fastening poles into the pavement used for pedestrian travel has become increasingly common amid the approach of the parliamentary elections.

She emphasized that the candidates themselves have reiterated that this is an unlawful act and asserted that the Council’s approval must be acquired to display posters in public locations.

The letter of approval granted by the Council issues the candidates with procedures for fastening the posters as well as information on the premises permissible for the poster display.

The Council warned that any banners affixed in violation of these guidelines will be removed.

Amid the approach of the parliamentary elections on April 21, Male’ City has been flooded with campaign posters.
