The city council has decided to build a new park in the under used City Park and has released concept drawings drawings.

The council said on its website last night that the park which is being developed on the request of Galholhu residents, will include a "play area" for children, a special section for toddlers and a wheelchair-accessible swing for disabled people.

Park amenities

- Seating area in the children's play area for parents to relax while the children play

- Specially themed "Flower Seats" and "Leaf Seats"

- An outdoor gym for public exercise and a walking track for jogging/running

- Outdoor gym for people with disabilities

- Toilet block

The council's website says a badminton court and a 3 on 3 basketball court will be built in the park's sports area. The sports area is set to have a parking zone with space for 102 cycles on the ground level and two slots for commercial space adjacent to the parking area.

Narrow planter boxes will be placed on the pavement to provide a buffer between road traffic and the park. The planter boxes are designed as trellises that make way for vines to weave through the park. The council said the size of the planter boxes will be as narrow as possible and space will be provided for prams and wheelchairs on the pavement.

The council has decided to install embedded lights on the wall of the park to illuminate the narrow street between the park and Salahuddin Mosque. The motive is to adequately illuminate the park area.

The council made the decision to expand the city park. The park has seen a variety of development projects from previous administrations. The park was initially made accessible to the general public to commemorate the nation's 50th anniversary of independence under the name "LED Park". Its construction costing millions of rufiyaa was lost due to improper maintenance.

People still visit the park as it is still open to the public. However, contrary to other parks in the city, it does not have designated seating spaces, making it uncomfortable for people visiting the area.
