Vice President Faisal Naseem on Wednesday, met with stakeholders from several government authorities regarding fire safety standards in the capital Malé region.
In the meeting held at the President’s Office Vp Naseem discussed measures to prevent the repetition of tragic fire incidents.
The meeting focused on the relocation of fuel and chemical storages away from residential areas and standardisation of the handling and storage of highly flammable goods.
Additionally, the stakeholders discussed methods to immediately implement safer and more efficient delivery of fuel on fuel bowsers and briefed Vp Faisal on ongoing efforts to follow fire safety standards. They also deliberated on the challenges faced in implementing the measures.
The Vice President urged them to adhere to the safety guidelines of the Fire and Rescue Service from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).
Senior officials from Ministry of Defense, Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), State Trading Organisation (STO), Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM), Malé City Council, Maldives Police Service, and Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) took part in the meeting.
