Originally unveiled in 2015 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Maldivian independence, Izzudheen Faalan has undergone repairs twice before, with the most recent work completed in 2017.
Renovation of the Presidential Jetty "Izzudheen Faalan", commonly known as Jetty No. 1 in Male', is set to be expedited starting next month, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) said.
A media official from MTCC said that concrete beam works are currently underway at the jetty, with additional materials expected to arrive soon.
He added that the procurement process for WPC pipes and filler materials has been completed, and the necessary items are expected to arrive by next month.
These materials will accelerate the ongoing work, which has been delayed due to delays in procuring materials into the country, he said.
Earlier in July, MTCC said that delays were caused by delays in equipment being imported. However, the official said that once the materials needed for the renovation arrive, work of the jetty will be expedited.
The renovation of Izzudheen Faalan was contracted to MTCC by the previous administration under a design-and-build agreement, with the project estimated to cost MVR 11.7 million (approximately USD 760,000).
Although the renovation work officially began in May this year, more than four months have passed since the jetty was closed for repairs.
