The Maldivian government, on Monday, confirmed its decision to facilitate a means of sending aid to Maldivians stranded in Malaysia, from their families in Maldives.
In a circular released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the institution confirmed that the government will carry care-packages to Malaysia for the first 500 to register through the Ministry's portal.
In addition to Malaysia, the government previously established weekly care-package deliveries for Maldivians families living and stranded abroad in Sri Lanka.
Under the Foreign Ministry's cargo assistance guidelines, Maldivian families are only authorized to send prescription medications unavailable in the country, and other urgent items.
As cargo planes have limited space, the service will be prioritized on a first-come-first-serve basis. The items can be handed over to the national airline Maldivian's City Check-in Office at the Greater Male' Bus Terminal from 0800 hrs till 1630 hrs on Tuesday.
Items that have been authorized for export to Malaysia;
- Tuna cans
- Noodles
- Fish paste 'Rihaakuru' (packed by MIFCO or ENZI)
- Packaged food items
Items on the prohibited list include cigarettes,short eats, cake, fruits and vegetables, raw fish and money.

A maximum of 15 kilogrammes of 'assistance in the form of comfort' can be sent through families in Maldives.
