Zareer's appointment as the new Commissioner General of Taxation was approved by Parliament during a sitting held on May 13. He has also previously served as the Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation.
Hassan Zareer, the former Chairperson of Bank of Maldives (BML), has been appointed as the Commissioner General of Taxation.
Zareer was presented with his letter of appointment by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in a ceremony held at the President's Office.
Zareer's appointment as the new Commissioner General of Taxation was approved by Parliament during a sitting held on May 13. He has also previously served as the Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation.
In addition to Zareer's nomination, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu proposed the name of former Commissioner General of Taxation, Yazeed Mohamed, as an alternative option for the post. However, Yazeed did not receive approval from the Parliament.
Zareer has held various positions related to tax and audit since 2000. Before being appointed as Chairperson of Bank of Maldives, he has served as the Finance Director and Group Chief Compliance Officer at Villa Shipping and Trading.
Zareer holds a Master of Science in Finance and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting Honors from the International Islamic University Malaysia. He is also a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) and a Member of the Chartered Global Management Accountants. Additionally, he is a Member of the Certified Practicing Accountants (Australia).
