The parliamentary sitting scheduled for today has been cancelled due to insufficient number of members in attendance.

Despite each parliamentary session mandated to be begun at 09:00 hrs, today's live session was broadcasted after 09:30 hrs. Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Aslam had subsequently declared that the session has been cancelled due to the unmet quorum.

Parliamentary session were interrupted for nearly three weeks due to campaign rallies for the election of the upcoming 20th parliament term and had recommenced yesterday. This sitting had proceeded smoothly with sufficient quorum and debates ensuing on various cases of concern.

The current 19th parliamentary term will conclude on May 15.

However, Speaker Aslam had stated that sessions will proceed as usual and operations of the parliament will not observe any interruptions until the scheduled last sitting on May 13.

Many members of the 19th parliamentary term had contested in Sunday's parliamentary polls. Most members failed to be re-elected for another term with only 11 members of the current parliament securing seats in the 20th term.

The inauguration of the 93 MP-Elects will be held on May 28.
