The position of president of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) became vacant in June last year when the party's president, Mohamed Nasheed, resigned. Since then, the party has appointed former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the acting president.
MDP has announced that the election to choose the party's president will take place on March 2.
The application window is now open for members interested in applying for the post, and it will remain open until next Tuesday. Applicants are required to submit their forms after clearing their criminal records.
After leaving MDP, Nasheed played a leading role in the formation of a new party called The Democrats. However, he is currently taking a hiatus from politics.
