The changes to Maldivian foreign policies have further bolstered independence and national sovereignty, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The Maldivian head of the state made the remark at the commemoration event to celebrate 130th anniversary of the country's military. According President Solih, the Maldivian foreign policy is formed on the backbone of unison.
This unison originates from trust, loyalty and assurance between the Maldives and international bodies, said President Solih. He further claims the testament to his statements were the continued assurance from international communities to safeguard the Maldivian sovereignty.
According to the Maldivian head of state, the most valued concept for the country since its birth as a nation, has been its freedom.
"The main duty of [you] brave soldiers must be to protect the sovereignty and safety of our nation, which you accept and honor of which I am certain. Our nation's safety and sovereignty can be ensured by extending regional peace and harmony in a sustainable manner," President Solih, who is also the commander in chief said.
Maldives President while speaking about the importance of protecting the country's peace and tranquility, also stressed on the rise of terrorism activities. According to President Solih, with the advancement of technology and its obvious ease, terrorist activities have surged while their tactics have also incorporated these changes making them more dangerous.
President Solih claims that the country's military was at the forefront of defending the island nation from any internal or external threat it may presumably face. The statesman also stressed on the importance of tweaking and increasing the capabilities of military personnel to ensure they are combat ready.
Moreover, while acknowledging the Maldivian military for their hard work, dedication and commitment to ensuring public safety, President Solih expressed gratitude for their conduct and support amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The President notes the efforts of military personnel amid the pandemic was beyond simple gratification, adding the military extended a generous act of humanity.
