Maldives flagship carrier, Maldivian Airlines is seeking long-haul aircraft for lease, reports Island Aviation Services Limited - the airline's parent company.

The airline is seeking long haul aircraft for an eight-year lease, with economy and at least 12 business class seats.

The news was confirmed by Island Aviation's Deputy Managing Director Aishath Jennifer. According to her, the airline aims to bring the long-haul variant within the first quarter of 2023.

The airline is currently attempting to expand its flight routes, and operate to further destinations.

Maldivian is gearing up to take the aircraft on lease after expending the lease on the airline's largest plane; an Airbus A321. The airline brought the A321 in 2015, which is now released due to its age and higher maintenance cost.

The national airline currently boasts of 23 aircrafts in its fleet, with international operations to Trivandrum, Cochin and Dhaka.
