The terror attack on former President and Majilis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed is a special case and its investigation should be neither hurried nor slowed down, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem said on Sunday.

In a press conference held in the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO), Shameem addressed the ongoing investigation of the terror attack on May 6. Five people have been so far arrested for the assassination attempt.

Shameem said such investigations are delicate and a balance must be maintained.

"If it is too hurried, there is a chance the perpetuators may escape. If they slow it down too much, there is a chance evidence may be destroyed," Shameem said.

He said he is personally briefed by the Police once or twice a week regarding the investigation and he is satisfied with how it is being conducted.

In addition to his guidance, foreign experts are also guiding the police with this investigation, Shameem said.

He believes the Police will close the investigation and send it to PGO before July is over. The deadline for prosecution is August 5, and Shameem said he will work to ensure the case is sent to the Criminal Court before that.
