A staff member of the Maldives’ national carrier Maldivian, who allegedly embezzled over MVR 500,000 from the company, has been ordered to repay MVR 300,000 of the stolen amount within a week.
According to sources, the money was embezzled by a female employee of Maldivian’s commercial department. Maldivian had also confirmed that they are investigating such a case.
While the staff, who was ordered to stay home for the duration of the investigation, has been ordered to pay back MVR 300,000, the fate of the remaining embezzled amount is unclear.
An official of Maldivian had previously said that the female staff is the only employee suspected of being involved in the case. The official had refused to impart more information until the end of the probe.
Mihaaru understands that the female employee embezzled the money by logging into the company’s network using the identities of various staff. She allegedly took tickets from the system, spent the money for personal uses and edited the sales reports.
