President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that subsidies, Aasandha health insurance scheme, and pensions for citizens will not be reduced.

Speaking to residents of Mathiveri during his visit to Alifu Alifu atoll yesterday, President Muizzu said that he is committed to improving citizens' benefits without making such deductions.

The policy of this government is to increase people’s benefits without deducting anything they are receiving, he said.

President Muizzu emphasized that the government would not resort to printing money, as pledged during the presidential campaign, but would focus on economic growth and infrastructure development.

“In the future, we will not cut any subsidy, Aasandha, or retirement pension. We will make them better,” he added.

Addressing changes in government subsidies, the President highlighted the need to reduce unfair expenditures and prevent the misuse of Aasandha services.

He said that some medicines in Maldives are sold with profit margins of over 1,000 percent, even some included in the 250 most commonly sold drugs.

“These changes will not harm the public. Medicines will be available at discounted rates, aligned with STO prices,” he said.

President Muizzu also reversed a decision by various government agencies’ private retirement schemes to stop monthly allowances for newly retired employees.
