President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has submitted a request to Parliament seeking approval for the appointment of new ambassadors to three foreign countries.

In a letter read in Parliament today, President Dr. Muizzu announced that he has decided to appoint Ambassador-at-Large Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) as the Ambassador to the UAE.

During former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, Hussain Shareef served as a Minister in the President's Office and also held the position of Ambassador of Maldives to Japan.

In addition to Shareef, the President has also decided to appoint former Youth Minister Iruthisham Adam as the Ambassador of Maldives to the UK. According to President Dr. Muizzu's letter, former Foreign Secretary Ali Naseer Mohamed will be appointed as the Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations.

All three individuals have extensive experience in Maldives' foreign affairs, having worked in various capacities for many years.

Speaker Mohamed Aslam referred the issue of the appointment of the three individuals to the Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee.

After this government assumed office, the previous administration recalled ambassadors from various foreign postings.

President Muizzu has affirmed that his administration will prioritize the appointment of ambassadors to foreign nations who will advocate for the needs of Maldivians. He assured that the state will provide improved services to Maldivians living abroad than has been done previously.
