Senior professionals in the tourism sector have formed a new non-governmental organization (NGO) called 'Destination Future'.
The NGO said that their main focus would be to increase the number of Maldivians working in the industry and to provide training opportunities.
As per the last National Census, 15,500 Maldivians are working in the tourism sector, while the industry employs 36,000 foreigners.
They will also work towards addressing different issues and concerns that arise within the industry.
The leaders of the NGO are tourism industry professionals who have 15 to 25 years experience in the sector, who are even at present filling senior positions at various organizations. This includes Hamza Saeed, Amjad Thaufeeq, Aishath Ali, Ibrahim Inad, Hussain Hassan, Riya Saeed, Nuas Mohamed and Abdulla Nabeel.
The NGO is currently accepting applications from sector workers who wish to join the organization.
