New packages for South African tourists travelling to Addu

With the introduction of chartered South African Airways flights to Gan International Airport, resorts in Addu Atoll have announced special packages for tourists flying in from Johannesburg.

Weekly flights between South Africa and Gan beginning Nov 24, 2018 have been confirmed by the Ministry of Tourism, in recognition of this year's tourism season. Around 300 tourists will be catered to every week on the A340 aircrafts scheduled to fly from South Africa to Addu via South African Airways.

Holiday packages have been introduced to all resorts in Addu. These include Shangri-La resort at Villingili, Canareef resort at Herathera, as well as Equator Village located in Gan.

The package offered by South African travel agent 'Star Line Holidays' include a seven-night trip, breakfast included, a 15-minute speedboat transfer from the airport to the respective resorts, and the inclusion of tax. Options of half-board and full-board will be made available as add-ons, while all-inclusive and business packages are also made available as part of the offer.

The flight from O.R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg is estimated to last seven hours to reach Gan. These flights are scheduled for the tourism season this year over the period of Nov 24, 2018 to Jan 12, 2019.

Currently, Sri Lankan Airlines is the only airline that has scheduled flights Gan. Addu Atoll is a fast-growing destination for tourists, with resorts like Shangri-La and Herathera and caters to a total number of 800 tourist beds.
