The Maldives’ national carrier Maldivian is looking to commence operations to South Africa.
Ali Nashaath, the Head of Administration of Maldivian’s operator Island Aviation Services (IAS), stated that the company is currently in talks with South African authorities and tour operators regarding the new venture.
According to another official, IAS had dispatched a special team to South Africa to study the nation’s tourism market, while a team from South Africa conducted similar research in the Maldives.
“The results from the market research are not bad. We estimate that flights can begin over the coming months. But nothing has been finalised yet,” said the official.
Maldivian currently operates to 10 destinations outside of the archipelago, including India, Bangladesh, Thailand and China.
