The flats are expected to be ready for occupancy by mid-2025, with completion estimated by July or August next year, according to Minister Dr Ali Haider Ahmed.
The structural work of 16 out of the 32 towers being developed by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) in Hulhumale' Phase 2 has been completed.
These 4,000 flats are being built under the "Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme" initiated by the previous administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
In a post on social media platform X yesterday, FDC announced that the 16 towers, named "Amaan Udhares," are being constructed by KPIL (formerly JMC). The other 16 towers, named "Amaan Dhoadhi," are under construction by NBCC (India) Limited.

To speed up the construction, additional laborers have been brought in. Each of the 32 towers will consist of 17-18 storeys, with eight apartments per floor. In total, there will be 1,200 two-bedroom apartments and 2,800 three-bedroom apartments.
The project is financed through two loans totaling USD 227 million, provided by India's EXIM Bank.

While the first 4,000 recipients of the flats under the previous government were announced shortly after the end of their term, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) halted the allocation due to allegations of unfairness in the compilation of the recipient list.
ACC found that 60 percent of the 4,000 individuals on the list were ineligible, with only 20.7 percent of eligible applications having no issues. The remaining 20 percent of eligible forms contained discrepancies. The current administration has decided to review all applications submitted in the first round of the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme and compile a new list, totaling more than 20,000 forms.
Housing Minister Dr Haidar stated in July that the final list would be released next month after review.
