The funds of USD 1.25 million collected in the telethon, 'Maldivians with Palestine', held by State media PSM, has been delivered to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
The funds of USD 1.25 million collected in the telethon, 'Maldivians with Palestine', held by State media PSM, has been delivered to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last night said that the funds had been sent to UNRWA via central bank Maldives Monetary Authority on August 20.
The ministry said that there is a copy of debit advice, and confirmation that the funds have been deposited in UNRWA for Palestine account.
With the statement, the ministry also shared a copy of the transaction details provided by JP Morgan Bank.
The telethon was held on June 12 from 08:00 hrs to 00:00 hrs. Various State agencies, schools, private individuals and companies made donations. Fund donation boxes were also placed at 13 locations in Male' alone. Total funds received amounts to USD 1,248,826.56, with the amount having been confirmed by an independent audit firm Crowe Maldives LLP.
Foreign Ministry further said that discussions had been held with UNRWA on various projects and programmes that the funds would be spent on.
The ministry said that the large amount of donations indicate the support Maldivians show for the Palestinian cause.
