President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday met with a Special Envoy of Palestine’s President Dr Mahmoud Abbas.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office, President Solih was presented a letter on behalf of President Abbas.

The Special Envoy highlighted President Solih's statement at the General Debate of the 74th Annual Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), held in New York. He expressed appreciation for President Solih addressing the ongoing abuses of the Israeli government against Palestine and reaffirming Maldives' support for the Palestine.

He further stressed that Palestinian statehood is an unalterable precondition for a just and lasting peace in the Levant and for normalization of relations with Israel.

Special Envoy Habbash also briefed President Solih on the ongoing settlement activity of Israel in territory meant for a Palestinian State which created ground realities unamenable to a just and enduring peaceful two-state solution.

President Solih affirmed that the Maldivian people and government will always support Palestinian in their quest for recognition and dignity multiple times during the meeting. He also assured that Maldives would actively advocate for the cause on the international stage.
