Over MVR 1 million has been received via the telethon launched in the Maldives to assist those affected by heavy flooding in Pakistan.
Vice President of Pakistan Maldives Friendship Association Hamdhoon Rasheed said that the telethon launched at 8:00 am received MVR 1.26 million into the account opened to assist Pakistan.
He said that a large number of people are also assisting through funds placed in seven regions of Male' city and several atolls via Dhiraagu Pay and Ooredoo M-faisaa.
The telethon was closed t 12 a.m. on October 1. Hamdhoon said that businesses and individuals, especially children, assisted and took part in the process
The Pakistan-Maldives Friendship Association has decided to sell food items of Maldives and Pakistan, as well as hold a cultural show to raise money.
More than one third of Pakistan has been flooded since June with nearly 1,500 people killed and millions affected by flooding as well as landslides and mudslides.
