Shift duty has now been implemented in three departments at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to meet the increased demand for consultations.

Medical Director of IGMH, Dr Aminath Zeyba Ahmed answering a question raised by Mihaaru News during a press conference held on Thursday, said that this change applies to the departments of gynecology, mental health, and dentistry, where longer queues are observed for appointments.

Previously, these departments operated consultations during official hours and an additional shift, which extended patient hours until 20:00.

However, high demand has led to extended waiting times for treatment and consultations for these services.

CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem said that the management is working to improve its services with new facilities.

Some departments are considering a two-shift system to reduce appointment wait times, he said. Haleem added that once the General Practitioner (GP) system is in place, it will become easier for patients to book appointments.
