A third announcement in pursuit of individuals to clean and supervise mosques in Male' and Hulhumale has been published with Mayor Azim encouraging locals to apply for these positions and make it a pride to maintain mosques in the country by locals themselves.
Despite the decision to appoint locals to clean the mosques in Hulhumale and Male’ City the development has proved unfruitful after a second announcement. After gazetting the announcement for a third time yesterday, the Mayor of Male’ City, Adam Azim sent a special message to the people declaring that mosques in Maldives must be cleaned by “Maldivian hands”.
“Make it an honor and happiness to maintain and clean Mosques in Maldives by the hands of Maldivians.” wrote Azim in a post with the publication of the announcement after failing to receive applications from a sufficient number of individuals to maintain and clean mosques.
“I implore as many Maldivian men and women as possible to apply for these jobs.”
Male’ City Council had decided to hire Maldivians to maintain the mosques during the council’s meeting held on the 22nd of last month, further determining to seek expatriates if seeking Maldivians proved unsuccessful.
Mayor Azim had revealed that very few Maldivians had responded to the announcement amid a meeting held last week and elaborated that while the council had announced a search for 114 individuals, only 14 locals had extended applications.
The City Council had settled on a remuneration between MVR 5000 and MVR 15,000 for locals performing the determined responsibilities at the mosques in Male’ and Hulhumale. The highest stipend within this has been allocated to welders, carpenters, technicians, electricians and plumbers with a payment of MVR 15,000.
While 110 individuals are required for the dusting and tidying of mosques, the salary determined for this role is a figure of MVR 12,000, matching that of payment offered to repair works.
While supervisors are also sought to manage the mosques, a compensation of MVR 5,020 has been extended for the job, with MVR 1,500 provided for service allowance and MVR 75 alloted for daily attendance.
