Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia Ghaniya Abdul Ghafoor was dismissed from her post on Tuesday.

Local media Mihaaru reported Ghaniya's dismissal amidst accusations that she was involved in the bribery case concerning her husband, Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Didi. It is speculated that bribes were deposited to her bank account.

The administration is yet to issue an official statement regarding Ghaniya's sacking.

Recently, public criticisms were aimed at the government for the lack of action against Ghaniya despite allegations of involvement in Judge Didi's case.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) ordered the suspension of Judge Didi in relation to the aforementioned case on June 12. The judicial watchdog is currently investigating a total of five cases concerning the Supreme Court Judge.

Ghaniya was appointed Deputy Ambassador at the Maldivian High Commission in Malaysia during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

In 2013, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) levelled charges against Ghaniya for attempting to extend undue advantages and providing false information to an investigation while she was serving as Secretary General of Supreme Court.

However, the outcome of Ghaniya's 2013 case remains unclear.
