An agreement for the ‘Project for Disaster Resilience Enhancement in Malé Island’ was signed with the government of Japan in September.
The Ministry of Construction and Infrastucture said that a consultancy agreement to conduct the detailed design for this project has been signed on Thursday.
The agreement was signed by State Minister at Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure Thoaam Mohamed and Chief Consultant Hiromi Namiki.
The project is planned to be conducted under free aid of 20 million Japanese Yen (USD 140,000) from Japan's Economic and Social Development Program.
The seawall was built in 1990 also by Japan after extraordinary high waves caused major damage in Male' in 1987.
