Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel advisory urging Maldivians against non-essential travel travel to Iran and South Korea over the COVID-19 outbreak.
The government urged all Maldivians currently visiting or residing in the two countries to register at the foreign ministry. The ministry noted that Maldivians in South Korea could also register at the Embassy of Maldives in Tokyo, Japan.
The foreign ministry further urged Maldivians to heed the instructions and advice given by the governments of their respective countries, regarding the coronavirus outbreak.
Iran reported 19 fatalities and total 139 infections by this Wednesday, while South Korea has issued a red alert over the spread of COVID-19, which has claimed 12 lives and infected more than 1,500 in the country.
Maldives also issued a travel advisory earlier this month, urging Maldivians travelling to Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran to exercise caution.
COVID-19, a new type of coronavirus which originated in Wuhan City, China, has killed more than 2,700 individuals and infected over 81,200 around the world.
