Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, On Tuesday, delivered the keynote address at the roundtable discussion on 'Climate Change, Migration and Displacement' during the Berlin Climate and Security Conference 2019.
In his address, Minister Shahid stressed the importance of taking decisive and urgent action to reverse the trends of climate change. Moreover, he conveyed the commitment of Maldives to be at the forefront of global action on the matter.
The Minister is currently attending the Berlin Climate and Security Conference on the invitation extended by Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas.
During this visit, Minister Shahid will attend the Fourth German-Asian Business Dialogue which will take place on June 5, 2019.
On the sidelines of the conference, the minister also met with Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders. During their exchange, both ministers discussed further strengthening existing relations in areas such as climate change, democracy and human rights.
He also conducted meetings with Head of the Federal Chancellery and Federal Minister for Special Tasks of Germany, Helge Braun, in which the minister thanked the German government for their continued support towards democratic consolidation in Maldives.
Further, Minister Shahid expressed hope for enhanced cooperation in the sector of judicial reform, tourism, trade investments, and climate change.
