Speaking at the World Governments Forum in Dubai today, President Dr Muizzu said that it is a key objective of his administration to reap the full benefits made possible through the natural location of the Maldives.
"That is the vision, of a Maldives that is moving towards the future, has participation of all, and welcomes innovative, sustainable development," President Dr Muizzu said.
The President stated that his administration intends to bring about an economic revolution to the Maldives through a strong economic plan.
He highlighted some of the development projects including the central maritime port with a free zone, expansion of the Velana International Airport, and the integration of maritime development in Haa Alif atoll with an established global shipping route.
"The development agenda of our government is built upon innovative thinking," the President said, revealing plans to establish the Ras Malé Eco-City project, the first eco-city to be built in the country.
In addition to this, urban centres will be developed in different regions across the country, he said.
The President further highlighted the government's intention to prioritize climate resilience, increase renewable energy production to 33 percent, establish more biosphere reserves and nature parks, plant five million trees with a purpose of building resilience and explore feasibility of vertical farming for food security purposes.
He also mentioned the establishment of a 20 year long term development plan for the country in a bid to ensure continuity.
In his address, President Dr Muizzu commended the UAE for leading the way in promoting inclusive governance and partnership.
He also spoke of the importance of international cooperation for sustainable development.
He appealed to UAE and other friendly nations to offer assistance and cooperation in Maldives' efforts to bring about change.
"Maldives' relations with other nations is based on mutual respect, mutual benefit, as well as strengthening of political and economic resilience," the President stated.
"Development brought through sidelining any friends will not be complete."
