Dubai’s budget carrier FlyDubai confirms postponing its Gan route flights to the end of June, . The airline was initially set to launch operations on February 4, 2022.

With this decision, the existing Dubai-Malé flights will accommodate passengers who have already booked tickets for next month. Additionally, customers can change travel dates without any additional cost.

The Managing Director of Inner Maldives, Mohamed Firaq has confirmed the airline will now commence its Gan route on June 24. Inner Maldives is the local agent for FlyDubai.

Speaking about the airline’s decision for postponing its flights, Firaq said the airline will promote tourism in the southern part of the country with Inner Maldives’ support. Tour operators have also sought delays in flights to allow for additional marketing time.

“We can participate in eight exhibitions before embarking on our flights and work towards promoting tourism in the southern part of the country,” Firaq said.

The airline will reportedly increase its frequency to 28 weekly flights to the Maldives once their Gan operations commence.

FlyDubai first launched its operations in the Maldives in 2013 with direct flights between Velana International Airport (VIA) and Dubai.
