The security provided for Indian High Commission in Maldives and the Chinese Embassy in Maldives has been strengthened by government of Maldives on Friday.

Security was enhanced after a request of the Chinese Embassy and the Indian High Commission, following requests threats against them on social media.

Last week, Indian High Commission also have requested Foreign Ministry of Maldives to take action against certain media outlets for publishing "hostile" articles about them.

Threats received about planned protests to be held in front of the Chinese Embassy and the explosion threat aimed at the Indian High Commission, according to the statement by the Foreign Ministry on Friday night.

Foreign Ministry has also stated it is their responsibility as the receiving state to protect foreign diplomatic personnel in the country. They further requested media to also not write in a manner that will affect the diplomatic relations between the two nations.

It is still not clear which media outlets India had specified in their requests. Parliament had requested Maldives Media Council (MMC) to look into this case later on as well.
