Gulf Air commences flights to Maldives

Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, on Sunday commenced operations to Maldives.

Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Thoyyib Mohamed, was present to welcome the Gulf Air GF 144 as it landed.

Gulf Air's Chief Commercial Officer at Vincent Coste expressed satisfaction that flight operations were commenced to a country with a fast advancing tourism sector such as Maldives.

"Gulf Air will arrange five flights between Maldives and Bahrain", he revealed.

Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL)'s Acting Head of Operations Ibrahim Haneef stated that the range of services at Velana International Airport (VIA) would be more complete following the start of Gulf Air's regular flights.

Gulf Air will utilize the Airbus A320neo to continue services to Maldives. While the airline currently possesses three aircraft of the particular model, Gulf Air aims to increase the number to 12 by the year 2023. A special feature of A320neo aircraft is the capacity to reduce fuel usage through advanced technology.

The commencement of Gulf Air operations were announced by Bahraini representative at the Maldives Partnership Forum which was held from June 17-18. He further revealed that the Bahraini government and several private businesses have expressed interest in making investments in Maldives
