Australia has announced they plan to establish a High Commission in Maldives.
Australia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the decision to establish a High Commission in Male' city was made to further strengthen the existing relations between Maldives and the nation.
The new High Commission will further strengthen the democratic relations between the two countries, according to Australia.
Australia plans to strengthen maritime security, aid in dealing with transnational crime, climate change, and promoting blue economy after establishing the High Commission.
They also said it would facilitate business opportunities through the High Commission and facilitate investments in the north of the Indian Ocean.
In a tweet, Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid welcomed Australia's decision and said the establishment of an Australian High Commission in the Maldives is an important step towards strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.
