Singapore-based airline 'SilkAir' announced plans to resume flights to Male', the capital city of Maldives, starting December 1.
According to the schedule released by the carrier, two weekly flights will operate between Changi International Airport and Velana International Airport (VIA).
The airline previously operated a single daily flight between the two countries, which was abruptly halted after Maldives closed its borders in March, amid the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
Ministry of Tourism is currently negotiating a 'travel bubble' between Singapore. However, no agreements have been reached.
Although SilkAir has released their schedules for Maldives, SilkAir's parent company Singapore Airlines is yet to release a flight schedule for the country.
As with numerous countries around the world, in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Maldives closed its air and sea borders to tourist arrivals from March 27 to July 15.
The restrictions on international travel left Maldives' heavily tourism reliant economy in an extremely vulnerable state. In mid-April, the World Bank projected that Maldives would be the worst-hit economy in the South Asian region due to the pandemic.
