Police have said that five recruits studying at the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement (NCPLE) are in serious medical condition, and are currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit at Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH).

Last night, Police stated that a large number of students were suffering from what is believed to be food poisoning and had been rushed to AEH for treatment.

AEH said that the recruits are being treated for an allergy reaction, but did not provide any further details.

A Police Media Official said that a total of 32 recruits were admitted at AEH, with five of them in the ICU.

One of the five in ICU is in a worse condition than the others, the official said.

These recruits are from the batch that will commence Police Basic Training on next Saturday.
