Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) have announced that they will be holding parliamentary primaries on the 20th of January.
In a statement released on Wednesday, PPM stated a decision has been reached to run for the parliament elections in coalition with PNC, and that candidates would be put forth representing the coalition.
The party said that interested candidates can apply for the primaries between December 20 and 31.
There has been a significant amount of interest expressed to run for the parliament through PPM/PNC tickets. Some have already initiated campaigns after announcing their candidacy in the primaries.
Maldives National Party (MNP) has previously claimed that an agreement reached between them and PPM/PNC during the presidential election states that they will compete in all upcoming elections in coalition.
However, PPM's leadership has refused to comment on the possibility of including MNP in the coalition, with no mention of the party being made even in Wednesday's statement.
