Although the current administration does not pay attention to the youth, there will be no youth in the Maldives who will be unemployed under the Maldives National Party (MNP)'s government rule, MNP president Mohamed Nazim said last night.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the MNP hub in South Henveiru, Nazim said the youth has hope in the party and the result was that many young adults are joining the party.

Nazim said that the future of the youth will be bright with MNP.

"We are trying to come to power to provide a happy and fulfilling life for the people of Maldives. We have a national plan in the works for the next 20 years," - Nazim

He said that a generation of youth has been completely destroyed, therefore, the party has a special plan for them.

"We conducted a study recently which found the biggest problem in Maldives is the of social security," Nazim said.

He said that many social problems arise because of the entire family living in small places, and a solution must be found for this issue. Therefore, the party is trying to come to power only for the benefit of the people, Nazim said.

"We should not blame the youth. The government and its leaders need to be blamed. The President should be blamed. The government should take responsibility. We should be blaming the leaders. The President should blame them. Previous governments did not care about them, instead they only talked about doing things for them," Nazim said.

He said the problem cannot be solved by building football fields alone. Instead, young people want happiness and fulfillment.

"On voting day on September 9, young people should think about who will make it [a happy and fulfilling life] happen for them,"

The government has done nothing to address the growing issue of drugs and substance abuse in Maldives, he said, adding that the party has a plan to solve this problem.

"We will hopefully take all measures to prevent smuggling of such illicit substance into the Maldives," Nazim said.

Nazim said that seizure of these substances alone does not solve the problem, as the issue of drugs being "lost" is also emerging. Nazim had criticized the government for not being able to investigate and taken action against negligent parties in such cases.

"The government does not look into negligence. There is turmoil due to the election, and they fighting amongst each other to win," Nazim said.

Criticising the closure of the detox centre due to lack of medicines, Nazim said the party is thinking about the youth and no youth will be left out in the party's government.

He said while governments talk of development, if it does not financially benefit the youth, it is of no use.

Therefore, the upcoming election is an opportunity for the youth to decide their future and the only choice they have is MNP, he said.
