Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on Sunday, August 27, announced it would begin signing agreements with the recipients of the Binveriya scheme.

The ministry announced that the process to officially transfer land plots to the beneficiaries who have been awarded land in the Malé region has begun as of Sunday. Hulhumalé synthetic track has been designated as the location where the recipients can visit and complete the necessary paperwork by signing the documents.

The ministry further added that it would inform recipients about the date and time to attend the venue to sign the documents.

If recipients wish to appoint a proxy to sign the documents on their behalf, they are required to complete the "power of attorney" document on the Gedhoruveriya Portal and provide it to the designated proxy when they attend the signing process, the ministry said.

Individuals attending to sign the land allotment agreement must bring a copy of the land recipient's ID card, along with their original ID card and a copy of the 'power of attorney' for those authorized to sign on behalf of the land recipient, in case a substitution is necessary, the ministry said.

To enhance the scheme, Maldives government amended the regulations granting discretionary powers to the ministry to issue land registry instead of the island or city council authority.

Draws have already been conducted to determine the beneficiaries of land parcels from Hulhumalé, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavaru lagoon as part of the Binveriya housing scheme.

The ministry had previously confirmed that a total of 18,955 applicants are deemed eligible under the scheme, and they are set to receive a total of 9,003 plots.
