Supreme Court Justice Husnu Suood has released his latest legal publication, "Maldivian Contract Law" on Wednesday, August 9.
Husnu Suood's most recent publication has been released by the Maldives Law Institute, which has also published several of his previous works. The institute has produced a total of 14 legal books, including Suood's earlier contributions as well as the works of Supreme Court Justice Mahaz Ali.
The book was officially launched at ceremony held at Billabong International High on Wednesday evening. The book launch was inaugurated by Suood's brother, Dr. Ahmed Anwar, who serves as the Rector of Villa College. Dr. Anwar emphasized the value of Suood's recent publication for law students within the Maldives, highlighting its potential benefits.
"Suood's recent book will be beneficial, and I extend my gratitude to him for this valuable contribution that will undoubtedly enrich the education of law students in the Maldives," Dr. Anwar expressed.
The event saw the presence of notable figures within the Maldivian legal community, including Chief Justice Mu’uthasim Adhnan, fellow Supreme Court justices, Civil Court judges, and legal practitioners.
At the ceremony, Suood highlighted the importance of authoring legal books and added that it was important for legal review works. He also spoke about the importance of archiving landmark cases and case laws, which is a practice in several developed countries.
Justice Husnu Suood further said that such legal contributions are important to provide academic content for aspiring lawyers and students. Suood requested local judges and lawyers to write more law books to improve legal academia.
“I wish to see others authoring their own books as well,” Suood said.
Suood's "Maldivian Contract Law" marks the first English-language publication addressing contract law principles and practices specific to the Maldives. The book is now available to purchase from Maldives Law Institution.
