Maldives International Marathon unveiled the designs for their official race T-shirt and marathon finisher medals.
This is an international running event hosted by Maldives and is set to commence on March 8, in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
The medals' design is inspired by a steering wheel of a boat, which symbolizes the sea transportation of Maldives. The outer ring of the medal is engraved with protected marine species of Maldives.
The T-shirt was designed by local artist Abdullah Thaufeeq of 'Lonufen Studio'. It is covered in traditional coral stone designs, while incorporating various species of local fauna as well.
The T-shirt was drawn live at the marathon's promotional event, held at Family Room by Coffee Lab.
The event endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism will be held in association with 'Unix Sporting', local event management company 'Object' and the famous running club 'iRunners'.
Applications for the marathon opened on January and closes on February 10.
Components of the event include a marathon, half marathon, and 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre runs.
Furthermore, a 'Senior’s Power Walk', 'Kid’s Mile', 3.2km, 1.6km and 800-metre runs have been scheduled for the event.
Race Director Hussain Shujau said that the marathon would include many foreign participants in order to promote sports tourism and take long-distance running events to a higher level.
Shujau iterated that many special guests would attend the marathon, which would be "an event with a different and completely new concept".
The closing ceremony with a 'finisher party' and an award ceremony will take place on March 9.
