Minister Shafeeu has stated that efforts to train teachers to use AI during education of students will be proceeded this academic year while further assuring additional projects to develop high standard teachers in the country's educational industry.
Minister of Education, Dr Ismail Shafeeu has stated that efforts to train the teachers to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into school education will commence this year.
Speaking on the occasion of the beginning of the new academic year today, Minister Shafeeu stated that while the country is heading towards an impactful technological transformation, future generations must be raised to be acquainted with modern technology and have a love for development, while also being instilled with the values of Islam.
During his speech, the Minister emphasized that high quality teachers with creative thinking being active in the field is essential to providing high quality educationfor students.
"Special priority will be given throughout this academic year to acquaint teachers with strengthening learning and teaching using advanced technology such as artificial intelligence, and to provide education using assistive technology for inclusive learning," said Minister Shafeeu.
Highlighting that the biggest hurdle faced by the education system today is the scarcity of high-quality teachers in the industry, the Minister assured that efforts will begin in compliance with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to resolve the issue.
The Minister said that a national-level training program will commence this academic year to train teachers and increase the number of local teachers in schools. He also assured that the hours spent by teachers in schools will be capped at a certain level to ensure the health of those serving the education sector.
According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry, Government schools have 12,662 teachers employed this year, including 10,729 Maldivians and 1,933 foreigners
