Alia Investments and Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT) concluded its 'Boat Operator's Training Program’ 2019, on Thursday.
Ministry of Education’s State Minister Mohamed Hashim officiated the ceremony held to award certificates to the participants.
A total of 45 parties participated in the programme, from resorts and companies that deal with vessels. Nigeria and Pakistan also took part in the event.
The programme was initiated to aid speedboat captains and crew in emergency situations.
General Manager of Alia Ahmed Saeed stated that the programme teaches boat captains and crew about emergency procedures to help reduce incidents that take place at sea.
“If we make use of all we have learned, there will be fewer incidents at sea. Currently, we seem to have issues with lack of space for this event, but we will work towards improving this for future programs”, said Saeed.
Participants were taught how to behave during emergency situations such as firefighting, how an outboard engine operates, administer first aid and how to help protect the environment.
The aim of the program is to help reduce accidents at sea and to empower individuals to keep the sea free from pollution.
