The Parliament of Maldives has clarified today that despite the announcement of MP of Kaashidhoo constituency Abdulla Jabir's resignation, it has not been officially communicated to the Parliament on behalf of Jabir.

News of the lawmaker's resignation came out last Friday after one of his lawyers told 'Mihaaru' that Jabir has officially stepped down as MP.

However today the Parliament has doubled down on their response made on Friday that Jabir's letter of resignation has not been received by the office yet.

"Parliament still hasn't received Jabir's resignation letter," confirmed Communication Director of the Parliament Hassan Ziyau.

Jabir, who contested and lost for re-election to his People's National Congress (PNC) counterpart, is yet to personally comment on the matter.

According to the parliament regulations, the last day of the 19th Parliament would be 15th May, with the last session to be held on the 13th.

The newly elected 93 MPs of the 20th Parliament are due to be sworn in on the 28th of May.
