The Maldives’ special delegate to the European Union (EU) Ahmed Shian on Wednesday revealed that Maldivians will be able to acquire the Schengen Visa without leaving the country very soon.
While speaking to the state broadcaster Public Service Media (PSM), Shian said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been working on bringing the service to the Maldives since last year.
He said that most of the work is now complete, and all that is left now is pushing the official paperwork. The procedure would be complete in three to four months, he added.
Currently, Maldivians have to go to neighbouring Sri Lanka to acquire the special visa that allows Maldivian citizens to enter the Schengen area, which comprises of 26 European countries.
