MNDF has not provided any further details as of yet.
According to eye witnesses, the fire first broke out at the Marinedo Workshop in Thilafushi. The fire has since spread to the two adjacent workshops as well.
They further said that sounds of explosions are being heard from the site of the fire.
Videos circulating on social media show that a large number of workers at Thilafushi are assisting MNDF with controlling the fire.
No reports of any injuries have been received so far.
