The vessel, Leo Wing, was transporting gifts including over 1,070 gunny bags of rice, flour, and sugar meant for households in the two islands on behalf of Leo Trading's Chairperson, Abdulla Sawaad, who is originally from Nilandhoo.
According to the Gaafu Alifu Atoll Council, the vessel ran aground on Ekefaru reef and all the goods being transported had fallen in the sea.
A company official stated that efforts are currently underway to refloat the vessel.
