This year's third Parliamentary term to commence on October 7

The third parliamentary term will commence on October 7, after the conclusion of its extraordinary sitting today.

Parliament has decided to commence this year's third term on October 7.

Concluding the third extraordinary sitting of the second parliamentary session today, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that all tasks proposed by 50 members, to be completed within the extraordinary sittings, were completed today.

These include the appointment of a Prosecutor General and the passing the amendment bill of the Companies Act.

While the bill was passed today, appointment of Abbas Shareef, the Legal Secretary of the President’s Office, as the Prosecutor General was also confirmed.

As Speaker, Abdul Raheem has the power to schedule the sessions of the Parliament. As such, he announced that the first session of the third term will be held on October 7.

The second session of the parliament concluded and went on leave on August 22. The parliament went on leave after completing 82 percent of the work of the session, the parliament announced at the time.
