India has donated MVR 8.5 million for the renovation of the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement in Addu City.

Minister of Homeland, Security and Technology Ali Ihusan highlighted the significance of this donation during the graduation ceremony of the 37th Police Initial Training Course at the Police Academy.

The minister said that this assistance reflects the special relationship between India and Maldives.

The minister expressed gratitude to the Indian government for its support. The ceremony was also attended by India's National Police Academy Director, Amit.

Minister Ihusan also addressed the graduating trainees, and said that the day marked an important milestone in their careers as they are taking the first step toward becoming trained officers in the service of the country.

Ihusan reminded the new recruits of the pride and honor of their role, stressing the significant responsibilities they would shoulder. He urged the officers to help combat the drug problem in the country and prevent gang-related crimes.

The minister also highlighted the importance of protecting children from crime, guiding them towards a safe and productive future. He highlighted the police's role in working alongside other institutions to address illegal migration.

Minister Ihusan also commended the police force for its efforts in curbing the drug trade, revealing that drugs worth MVR 1.3 billion had been intercepted in the past year. He expressed pride in the police's hard work, noting the progress made despite the challenges.

At the ceremony, Police Constable Hassan Shamil, who was named the best student of the course, was presented with the Commissioner's Excellence Award.
